FabNewport is excited to host a Scratchathon on December 12 from 9-4 at the lab, 1 York Street. The event is open everyone but we ask you to register (registration link) if you can but still come if you don’t.
Scratch is a programming language and an online community
where children can program and share interactive media such
as stories, games, and animation with people from all over the
world. As children create with Scratch, they learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically.
Scratch is a computer programming language designed for children 8 or so and up. We invite all folks, young and old, to come by and see what is what. Bring a laptop if you can. We will supply food and some awards to dedicated coders.
Why Coding?
What’s fascinating about computer science (coding) is that it requires analytical skills, problem solving and creativity, while also being both foundational and vocational,” says Hadi Partovi, co-founder of Code.org, a nonprofit organization that promotes coding education. “I’m not sure there’s any other field that’s all those combined.”
We will run introductory workshops, open to all, at 9:30, 11 and 1:30.
