FabNewport, with the help of the Newport Public Library and the Jamestown Arts Center, had a fine weekend demonstrating and making with more than 100 people in Newport and Jamestown.

Saturday morning about 20 children and parents showed up to Newport Public Library to learn more about this summer’s Maker Camps. Each Aquidneck Island library will host a weeklong 15-hour free experience for 8-12-year-olds. Children will learn 3 and 2D design, programming and physical computing. It was nice to meet the interested parties and get pumped up for a summer working with youngsters.

More than 100 folks turned out for the launch of the JAC Lab at the Jamestown Arts Center. We had four 3D printers, 2 vinyl cutters and drawbots humming. Folks from 5 to 75 were in on the action. Open Lab Hours start Tuesday at the JAC Lab and will run three times a week:

  • Tuesdays 6-8
  • Thursdays 3-5
  • Saturdays 10-1

Each session will have a mini-workshop and coaches will be on hand to support makers. The drop in fee is $15/session.
